How To Set Up Lack of Activity Alerts with CarePenguin

Want to get alerts if there is a lack of activity at your loved one’s house? Then set up Activity Zones in the CarePenguin app!

What are Activity Notifications?

Activity Notifications allow users to set up blocks of time during the day when you know your loved one will be active. During these times, CarePenguin will “watch” for activity and if there is no activity within that timezone, we’ll send a notification encouraging you to check in and make sure everything’s okay.

How do I set up Activity Notifications?

To set up Activity Notifications, go to the home screen of the CarePenguin app and on the location card, tap the kabob icon (the three dots) in the upper right corner of the location card and select, “View Activity Notifications.” That will take you to a new screen where you will select times during the day when you expect your loved one to be active. We recommend setting two or three activity zones a day including times like waking up/breakfast, lunchtime, and then dinner time.

Tips to get the most out of Activity Settings

We recommend only setting up about two or three zones a day, with a two hour minimum for each zone.

For example, here are some great times to set:

  • Waking up/breakfast time: 6:00 am – 8:00 am
  • Lunchtime: 11:00 am – 2:00 pm
  • Dinner time/evening: 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Having fewer and longer activity zones decreases the amount of “false alarms” you may get when it comes to receiving alerts about your loved one’s activity, or lack thereof.

Snoozing

If you get an alert about lack of activity, but you know that your elderly loved one is okay, you can “Snooze the activity zone check” for that location. Snoozing is done by selecting “Snooze Activity Notifications” for the location card kabob menu. Note this menu item is only available if the zone is currently in the yellow or red alerting stage. Snoozing notifications that are in alert mode just tells CarePenguin not to worry about this zone, but start checking again when the next configured activity zone rolls around.

Pausing Activity Zones

If you would like to stop activity checks for the rest of the day or week, you can pause activity checks going forward on a location by tapping “Pause Activity Notifications” in the locations kabob menu. When you pause activity notifications, the pause is in effect until you unpause. The pause action will go on forever and for this reason once a day we send you a push notification reminding you that you have paused, just in case you forget. If you would like to stop receiving alerts about activity altogether indefinitely, you can go back to the activity notifications selection screen and unselect all zones you previously set.

Using Activity Notifications is an easy way to check on your loved one without having to look at the CarePenguin app many times a day. Of course you still can check the app at anytime to see the latest information.
